Brno Stag Do & Bachelor Party: Cocktails on Kozí, the Beer Exchange and Cellars under the Cabbage Market

Shots and cocktails around Jakubské náměstí, beer at stock-market prices, cellar bars beneath Zelný trh, a beer spa and karting, 90 minutes from Vienna: here's how to plan your stag do or hen party in Brno, with the best things to do and prices in koruna.

Good to know

Stag & hen do planning tips

What does a night out cost?

A beer (0.5 l) costs about 45–70 Kč in a pub, Pilsner Urquell 74 Kč at Lokál U Caipla; shots at Shot Bar from 55 Kč, cocktails about 100–180 Kč. Clubs: parties at Fléda from 149 Kč in advance, at Metro 170–650 Kč depending on the gig. Laser game 130 Kč per game, karting 290 Kč per race. You pay in Czech koruna; €1 is about 24.37 Kč.

All costs and money-saving tips ↓

Getting home at night

11 night bus lines, N89 to N99, run daily from 23:00 to 05:00 every 30 to 60 minutes, and until 06:00 on Friday nights. The hub is the main railway station, where the buses wait about 5 minutes for each other. Tickets: 15 minutes 20 Kč, 60 minutes 25 Kč, or simply tap your bank card contactless on the orange validators, capped at 90 Kč a day. City Taxi +420 542 321 321, plus Bolt, Uber with UberXL and Liftago.

DPMB timetables ↗

Closing time

There's no known general closing time: Metro runs until 05:00 Wednesday to Saturday, 4pokoje and Bar, který neexistuje until 03:30 on Fridays and Saturdays, and Sky Ice Bar until 04:00 on Fridays according to OpenStreetMap. By law, quiet hours run from 22:00 to 06:00, and making noise outside can land you a fine of up to 10,000 Kč.

What's banned?

Alcohol in public places is banned wherever the city ordinance lists them, plus at stops and within 20 m of schools, churches, playgrounds and supermarkets; pavement terraces are fine during opening hours. Fare dodging costs 1,525 Kč, or 1,025 Kč if you pay on the spot. With City Taxi, a soiled interior costs 2,500–5,000 Kč.

Ball clock, crocodile and Šalina

Every day at 11:00 the black granite clock on Náměstí Svobody releases a glass marble, and the bells of Petrov ring noon at 11:00, according to legend ever since the Swedish siege. In the passage of the Old Town Hall hangs the Brno Dragon, which is actually a stuffed crocodile. Here the tram is called the Šalina, and on Wednesdays the Šalina Pub runs through the city as a pub on rails.

Getting there

From Vienna main station the Railjet takes about 90 minutes, and RegioJet and FlixBus coaches about 2 hours; from Vienna Airport, direct buses take about 2 hours 15 minutes. From Prague about 2 hours 37 minutes, several times an hour, and from Bratislava 90 to 103 minutes. From Berlin about 6 hours 46 minutes direct, from Dresden about 5 hours, 2 trains a day each. Brno Airport has no direct flights from the German-speaking countries.

Where to stay

For a hotel for your stag or hen do in Brno, the city centre is the best base: there are hotels of every star rating in the centre and conference hotels by the exhibition grounds. The tourist office lists hostels such as Mitte, the hostel above Club Fléda, Eleven, Jacob and U Minoritů; beds from about 500 Kč, a three-star room about 1,500–2,500 Kč. It gets expensive and full during big trade fairs such as MSV in September and on the MotoGP weekend in June.

Weather and plan B

July is the warmest and sunniest month, with an average daily high of 24.5 °C; January averages 0.2 °C, and only about 500 mm of rain falls all year. Plan B if it rains: the labyrinth beneath Zelný trh, more than 70 illusions at Absurdia, laser game on Jánská, escape rooms in Staré Brno, 20 bowling lanes on Líšeňská or the saunas at Lužánky indoor pool.

Náměstí Svobody
📍 Meeting points

The city's main square, known as “Svoboďák”, triangular because of old trade routes and a stream, and mentioned as early as the 13th century. Here the black granite clock releases a glass marble every day at 11:00, and in Advent the Christmas market arrives with a winter bar.

Zelný trh
📍 Meeting points

The Cabbage Market, known as “Zelňák”, with a fruit, vegetable and flower market, the baroque Parnas fountain by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and the Reduta Theatre. The labyrinth lies beneath the square, and on the square is the entrance to the Slast cellar bar; in Advent, one of the Christmas markets.

Jakubské náměstí
📍 Meeting points

Square by the Church of St James with its ossuary, considered the second largest in Europe after Paris; on the corner with Běhounská, the functionalist Café Savoy. All around, on Kozí, Běhounská and Dvořákova, are the cocktail and shot bars, which makes it the meeting point for the evening.

Špilberk
📍 Meeting points

13th-century castle founded by Přemysl Otakar II, later a military fortress and prison, the “prison of nations”, with a 119 m deep well in the great courtyard and casemates you can visit. The castle grounds are free with Brnopas.

Petrov
📍 Meeting points

The Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul on the hill of the same name, pictured on the 10-koruna coin. Its bells ring noon at 11:00, according to legend because that ended the Swedish siege in the Thirty Years' War. From here it's down to Zelný trh.

Park Lužánky
📍 Meeting points

The oldest public park in the Czech lands, opened at the end of the 18th century, with the neo-Renaissance Kasino pavilion in the middle; Leoš Janáček liked to walk here. A meeting point between the clubs on Štefánikova and Lužánky indoor pool.

Budget

How much does a stag or hen do in Brno cost?

In Brno, half a litre of beer costs about 45–70 Kč in a pub, a cocktail about 100–180 Kč, a game of laser game 130 Kč and a karting race 270–290 Kč. The beer spa from 2,090 Kč, shooting packages and charter boats are what push the budget up; shots on Kozí, the 150 Kč brewery tour and the 90 Kč day ticket keep it down.

💡 How to save

  • Per group, not per head: at Nest Escape, “Ztracené město” costs 1,600 Kč for 2 to 5 people, and at the Laser Game Center you pay 130 Kč instead of 170 Kč per game with 5 players or more.
  • The stag package instead of the standard rate: “Rozlučka” at Paintball Hall costs 970 Kč per person with 1 hour of play, 300 paintballs and a costume for the groom.
  • The brewery without booking: the scheduled tour at Starobrno on Saturdays at 11:00 and 13:00 costs 150 Kč with tasting; a private group slot starts at 500 Kč.
  • Bank card instead of buying tickets: tap contactless on the orange validators and you never pay more than 90 Kč a day; at weekends one day ticket covers up to 5 people, of whom no more than 2 adults.
  • Group discount at Absurdia: 10 people or more get 15% off the 320 Kč entry, if you book in advance.

Guide prices per person, based on the prices of the venues and tours on this page. The bride or groom usually doesn't pay; their share is split across the group. The planner above adds up what your programme costs.
