Stag & hen do planning tips
💶
What does a night out cost?
50 cl of draught beer usually costs CHF 8–11 in Lausanne's pubs, CHF 9–10 at Bar Giraf. Cocktails at the Lausanne Cocktail Club are CHF 14–20. Club entry is usually CHF 0–25, for example CHF 10 on club nights at Le Romandie. All guide prices.
On Friday and Saturday nights, the night buses N1 to N6 run from St-François until about 04:45; there are none during the week. The M2 metro runs until around 00:45 at weekends. Taxi: Taxis Lausanne 0844 014 014, round the clock.
In Lausanne, bars may normally open until midnight, with an extension until 02:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Clubs (nightclubs) have hours until 03:00 and can extend until 06:00 for a fee: Chauderon 18 and Jagger's are open until 05:00, and so is the Lausanne Cocktail Club.
⚠️
What's banned?
In Lausanne, selling spirits and beer to take away is banned between 20:00 and 06:00; wine and cider are exempt. Smoking is banned indoors in bars and clubs. Big clubs only let you in from 18 with official ID, and at D! Club women and couples get priority when it's busy.
🇫🇷
French and francs
Lausanne speaks French, and you pay in Swiss francs. The city is the capital of the canton of Vaud and home to the IOC. Stag and hen dos are called EVG (men) and EVJF (women) here, which is also how you'll find offers.
🚆
Getting there
Direct trains get you to Lausanne from Bern in 69 to 76 minutes, from Zürich HB in 2 hours 12 minutes to 2 hours 22 minutes, and from Geneva in 39 to 51 minutes. From Geneva Airport it's 49 to 56 minutes. The M2 to the Flon and Ouchy stops in front of the station.
🛏️
Where to stay
If you stay at a partner hotel, a youth hostel or a campsite, you get the Lausanne Transport Card free: buses, metro and trains in 2nd class in the city's Mobilis zones, plus museum discounts. Around the station and the Flon you sleep close to the bars; private rentals aren't included.
🌧️
Weather and plan B
Lausanne gets around 1,132 mm of rain a year (Pully station); July is the warmest month, averaging 20.5 °C, and January the coldest at 2.7 °C. The city is built on a hillside, and the M2 climbs gradients of up to 12%. Plan B: escape rooms, laser tag, bowling or a sauna by the lake.
