Linz Stag Do & Bachelor Party: Your Programme from the Old Town to the Danube

Cocktail bars in the Old Town and on Domgasse, beer on Landstraße and at the Tabakfabrik, club nights on a Danube boat: here's how to put together your own stag do or hen party in Linz, with the best things to do.

Good to know

Stag & hen do planning tips

What does a night out cost?

A half-litre of Stiegl Goldbräu costs €5.70 at the Stiegl-Klosterhof, cocktails at the Rooftop7 Bar €13–14, plus a €3.80 cover charge. Linz clubs don't publish a fixed entry price. All guide prices.

All costs and money-saving tips ↓

Getting home at night

On Fridays, Saturdays and before public holidays, the night lines N82, N83 and N84 run from about 00:20 to 05:00 every 30 minutes, all via the main station. During the week the last tram on line 1 leaves Hauptplatz at 00:02. Taxi: 0732 6969 or 0732 2244.

LINZ AG night transport ↗

How late are places open?

In Upper Austria, bars, pubs and discos may stay open until 04:00, inns and restaurants until 02:00. Bars and discos may reopen at 18:00 at the earliest, so in the afternoon it's the beer hall and the inn.

What's banned in Linz

In Schillerpark and on Hessenplatz alcohol is banned, and visibly drunk people aren't allowed to hang around there either. Fine up to €218. Pub and restaurant gardens and authorised events are exempt.

Getting there

From Vienna it's 1 hour 16 minutes by train, from Salzburg 1 hour 8 minutes on average, from Munich 2 hours 59 minutes at the fastest. From Linz Airport, bus 601 takes about 22 minutes to the main station.

Where to stay

Upper Austria Tourism offers a short break in Linz from €144 per person in a double room for 2 nights with breakfast and the Linz Card. In November the Design Center hosts trade fairs such as Interpädagogica, so book early.

Weather and plan B

In July the average daily high is 26.1 °C, but July is also the wettest month. Plan B: the Ars Electronica Center, escape rooms or the Saunawelt sauna area at the Parkbad on the Donaulände.

Krügerl and Polterabend

In Austria you order a Krügerl (0.5 l) or a Seidl (0.3 l). And don't be surprised: here Polterabend usually means the stag or hen party itself, not the party with the bride and groom.
