Stag & hen do planning tips
💶
What does a night out cost?
5 dl of draught beer costs CHF 8.80 at Mr Pickwick, Guinness CHF 9.90. Cocktails are CHF 14–18 there and CHF 15 at Rollers Mini-Golf Bar. Entry to Village du Soir costs CHF 20 on Fridays and Saturdays and is free on Thursdays with the app. All guide prices.
The TPG night network runs on Friday and Saturday nights, and from the end of April to the end of September on Thursday nights too, on a normal ticket with no surcharge. The Léman Express lines L4, L5 and RE run as well. Taxi: Taxiphone 022 33 141 33, including vans with 5 to 7 seats.
In the canton of Geneva, bars may open until 01:00, and until 02:00 on the nights after Thursday, Friday and Saturday and before public holidays. Clubs (dance venues) may stay open until 08:00: La Gravière parties until 06:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and the bar at Chat noir in Carouge until 05:00.
⚠️
What's banned?
In the canton of Geneva, selling alcohol to take away is banned between 21:00 and 07:00, including in shops, at petrol stations and for deliveries. So buy drinks for later beforehand. Smoking is banned indoors in bars and clubs. Clubs such as La Gravière only let in over-18s with official ID.
🇫🇷
French and francs
Geneva mainly speaks French; English is widely used in hotels and tourism. You pay in Swiss francs; some tourist businesses take euros, but that's not the norm and the rate is often poor. Cards work almost everywhere, and a little cash in CHF helps.
🚆
Getting there
By train you're in Geneva direct from Bern in 1 hour 51 minutes, from Zurich in around 2 hours 51 to 54 minutes, and from Basel in around 2 hours 51 to 53 minutes. From Geneva Airport the train takes 7 minutes to Cornavin station.
🛏️
Where to stay
If you stay in a hotel, youth hostel or campsite in Geneva, you get the Geneva Transport Card free: buses, trams, trains and Mouettes in zone 10, including from the airport to your hotel. Around Cornavin you sleep close to Pâquis and Saint-Gervais. In April the Watches and Wonders watch fair fills the city.
🌧️
Weather and plan B
Geneva gets around 947 mm of rain a year; July is the warmest month, averaging 20.6 °C, and January the coldest at 2.1 °C. The Bise, a cold north-easterly wind, can stop the Jet d’Eau. Plan B: escape rooms, karaoke at Sketchiz, laser tag or bowling in La Praille.

Large open space of more than 78,000 m² between the Old Town and Jonction. There's a flea market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and a fresh produce market on Tuesday and Friday mornings and on Sundays. Mr Barber, Le Calbar and Green Café are nearby, a good gathering point on a Saturday.
