A beer (0.5 l) costs about 18 zł in a bar or restaurant according to a price site, with a range of 13–20 zł; at the Pijalnia at Piotrkowska 92, according to the guide, a shot and a beer are 4.50 zł each. Clubs: Narraganset free or pay on the door depending on the night, Prywatka price level 39–98 zł, Scenografia tickets 64.90–139.90 zł. Escape rooms 130–300 zł per room, a kart race 65 zł. You pay in złoty; €1 is about 4.38 zł.
All costs and money-saving tips ↓14 night bus lines, N1A to N9, with all stops on request: press the stop button to get off and wave to get on. The N3B runs along Piotrkowska every night, hourly at 22 minutes past, from 23:22 to 04:22, and until 05:22 on Saturday nights; trams run from about 05:00 to 23:00. Time ticket 20 minutes 4.40 zł, 80 minutes 6.80 zł, 24 hours 18 zł, at the machine or in the MigAppka app; riding without a ticket costs 510.80 zł. Uber, with UberXL for 6 people, and Bolt operate.
MPK Łódź night lines ↗There's no known closing time: Narraganset runs until 06:00 on Saturdays, Klub DOM until 06:00 on Fridays and Saturdays according to the guide, Prywatka until 08:00 or 09:00 in the morning according to a listings site, Spaleni Słońcem until 05:00 on Saturdays. Shops and petrol stations in seven central districts, including Katedralna and Śródmieście-Wschód with Piotrkowska, don't sell takeaway alcohol between 22:00 and 06:00; bars and restaurants are exempt. So buy supplies for the apartment before 22:00.
Drinking alcohol on streets, squares and in parks is banned in Poland, with a 100 zł fine, and an open bottle in your hand counts; we don't know of any exemption zone in Łódź, but beer gardens and terraces are fine. If you're driving: 0.2 per mille, between 0.2 and 0.5 it's an offence, above that a crime. E-scooters: 20 km/h maximum, two on one scooter 300 zł, with 0.2 to 0.5 per mille 1,000 zł. Smoking is banned in venues and at stops, with a 500 zł fine.
Until 1989 Łódź was the centre of Polish film; the film school, founded in 1948, produced Wajda and Polański. On Piotrkowska between 6 Sierpnia and Traugutta is the Aleja Gwiazd with more than 100 brass stars, even numbers for directors and odd numbers for actors. More than 150 buildings have murals, and the biggest in Poland shows Geralt of Rivia at Piotrkowska 182. The cult soup is zalewajka, a sour rye soup from the factory era; rickshaws have run on Piotrkowska since 1999.
From Berlin it's about 5 hours by train, with 2 direct trains a day according to a timetable site, otherwise with a change; FlixBus from Berlin takes 5 hours, from €23.48, at least 7 times a day to the coach station at Fabryczna station. From Warsaw Centralna it's 1 h 05 min to 1 h 18 min, from 48 zł, with at least 9 direct trains. Łódź airport only has Ryanair routes and none to Germany, Austria or Switzerland, so fly to Warsaw Chopin: the train from Zachodnia takes 1 h 09 min, FlixBus direct from the airport 1 h 30 min for €10–16. From Łódź Fabryczna station it's 1.4 km to Plac Wolności.

Łódź goes out along one street: at the top on Plac Wolności with craft beer and nalewka, in the middle between Piotrkowska 76 and 111 with shots, cellars and dance floors, and at the bottom in the OFF Piotrkowska factory complex. On top of that come three converted factories: Manufaktura in the north-west, Księży Młyn with EC1 and Monopolis in the east, and Wytwórnia on Łąkowa in the west.
For craft beer, nalewka, pierogi and shows
Plac Wolności is where the house numbers start and the starting point heading south: Pasaż Róży at Piotrkowska 3, craft beer up the iron staircase in the courtyard of number 17, oven-baked pierogi at 37, and nalewki and oysters at Biały Nalew at 44; 250 m west are the shows at Scenografia on Zachodnia.
For shots, a book cellar and three dance floors
Between Piotrkowska 76 and 111 everything is close together: escape rooms at 76, a shot and a beer for 4.50 zł each at the Pijalnia at 92 according to the guide, shots at ShotMe at 94, house beer at Bierhalle at 100, the book cellar at Struga 7 and, opposite, Prywatka with 3 dance floors.

The old Ramisch factory at Piotrkowska 138/140 is the place to go out: steaks in shipping containers at Doki, fish at Len i Bawełna, cocktails under industrial lamps at Spaleni Słońcem, techno in the warehouse at Klub DOM; 100 m west is the Pub Spółdzielczy multitap, 150 m east STREFA.
For bowling, laser tag, pierogi and a rooftop
The Poznański factory at Drewnowska 58, covering 27 ha with a 3.5 ha Rynek: 28 bowling lanes and a karaoke room at Grakula, laser tag one level up, pierogi at Galicja, gigs and DJ parties at Klub OHM in the power station hall, the skyFLY rooftop bar at Andel's; trams 2, 3, 11A and 11B to Zachodnia.
For a power station, house beer, wine and a vodka factory
Three factories in the east: the EC1 power station from 1907 by Fabryczna station with its planetarium, 2 km further on the Scheibler estate at Księży Młyn with 12 house beers at the Browar at Tymienieckiego 22/24 and the NieWinni wine bar at number 3, plus the Monopolis vodka distillery with Przy Kominie.
For gigs, whisky, bowling and karaoke
West of the city centre around Łąkowa 29: gigs in the old film studios at Klub Wytwórnia, next door more than 150 whiskies and film cocktails at Golden Bar, 24 bowling lanes at Król Kul in Nowa Sukcesja at Politechniki 1, and karaoke and pierogi at Indeks at Stefanowskiego 17.

In Łódź, half a litre of beer costs about 18 zł in a bar or restaurant, at the Pijalnia a shot and a beer are 4.50 zł each according to the guide, an escape room 130–300 zł per room and a kart race 65 zł. Seasonal tips
These dates come round every year. If your weekend falls on one of them, the city will be packed. If you'd rather keep things relaxed, plan around them.
In May, the student festival with a parade along Piotrkowska; the university districts are on Pomorska and Narutowicza and on Politechniki and Wólczańska.
In May and June, the photography festival in Art_Inkubator and factory halls; in June, the Good Taste Festival, when dozens of restaurants cook festival menus and guests vote for the best dishes.
From June to September, films every day under the open sky at more than 12 locations, in parks, at EC1, at Monopolis and in courtyards, up to 140 films over the summer.
On 29 July the city celebrates its town charter from 1423 on Stary Rynek, in some years with street art all along Piotrkowska; at the end of July, the three-day Summer Festival on the Błonia in Retkinia, with free MPK transport on festival days.
On Friday evenings in July and August, open-air concerts by Polish artists in the courtyard of the White Factory at Piotrkowska 282.
In mid-September the Festival of Four Cultures, on the last weekend of September the light projections of the Light Move Festival on Piotrkowska and Plac Wolności, plus Poland's biggest comics and games festival at Expo-Łódź; hotels are full then.
In October the Design Festival at Art_Inkubator, according to the organisers the most important design event in Central and Eastern Europe, and at the end of October the Soundedit festival at Klub Wytwórnia.
In winter, Christmas markets at Manufaktura and on Piotrkowska; the Manufaktura Rynek becomes an ice rink.
The 4.2 km Piotrkowska grew in 1821 out of the trade route to Piotrków; the section up to Piłsudskiego is traffic-calmed, with rickshaws since 1999. Set into the paving between 6 Sierpnia and Traugutta are more than 100 brass stars of the Aleja Gwiazd, the first in 1998 for Andrzej Seweryn, and between Tuwima and Nawrot 13,454 name stones of the Millennium Monument.
Izrael Poznański's textile factory, built from 1872, reopened in 2006 as a 27 ha complex with about 260 shops, around 60 restaurants and cafés, a 3.5 ha Rynek and a 300 m fountain; a beach in summer and an ice rink in winter, plus bowling, laser tag and Klub OHM in the old power station hall.
The city's first power station, from 1907, by Fabryczna station is now a science centre with almost 8,500 m², a planetarium and a 1,360 m² Art Nouveau machine hall; 2 km south-east is Karl Scheibler's Księży Młyn workers' estate, built from 1873 to 1900 and a listed monument since 1971, with a brewpub and a cinema museum.
