Madrid Stag Do & Bachelor Party: Malasaña, Huertas and the Rooftops of Gran Vía
Cocktails in Huertas, bodegas in Malasaña, tapas on Cava Baja and roof terraces above Gran Vía: here's how to plan your stag do or hen party in Madrid, with the best things to do, prices and night buses.
Good to know
Stag & hen do planning tips
💶
What does a night out cost?
A caña costs €2.70–2.80 at Plaza Mahou, and at Los Gabrieles you get 330 ml for €4.50. Cocktails are usually €9–14, at Areia usually €10. Club entry at Sala Pirandello is €14 with 1 drink until 00:30, at Casa Amante €12–18. All guide prices.
The metro runs every day from 06:00 to 01:30, and no later at weekends either. After that the Búhos night buses run, mostly from Plaza de Cibeles: on Saturdays and before public holidays every 15 to 20 minutes from 23:00 to 07:00, otherwise every 35 minutes until 04:00. A bus ticket costs €1.50. Taxis at night: €3.20 base fare plus €1.60 per km.
Bars may open until 02:00, music bars until 03:00 and nightclubs until 05:30; on Fridays, Saturdays and before public holidays you get an extra 30 minutes. Terraces close at 01:30 from 16 March to 31 October, otherwise at 01:00. At closing time the lights go on and the venue is cleared within 30 minutes.
⚠️
What's banned?
Drinking on the street is banned in the Comunidad de Madrid, terraces excepted, and counts as a minor offence with a legal range of €300–30,050. So your beer belongs at the bar or on the terrace, not on the square. There's no documented Madrid-specific ban on stag and hen costumes or pub crawls.
🍸
The night starts late
Clubs open late: Teatro Kapital at 23:00, Mondo Disko at 23:59, El Sol Club not until 00:30. Before that, tapas on Cava Baja and cocktails in Huertas belong on the programme. If you want to dance earlier, go to the tardeo at Casa Amante, where the free drink is valid until 20:00.
✈️
Getting there
Direct flights take 2 hours 40 minutes from Frankfurt, 2 hours 45 minutes from Munich and about 3 hours from Berlin. The Exprés Aeropuerto runs round the clock to Atocha for €5, in about 40 minutes. Metro line 8 has a €3 airport supplement, and a taxi to the centre inside the M-30 is a flat €33.
🛏️
Where to stay
For a hotel for your stag or hen do in Madrid, the best place to stay is between Sol, Huertas and Malasaña: the metro only runs until 01:30, and from there you can walk home. Rooms get scarce and expensive during the FITUR tourism fair in January, with about 155,000 trade visitors, ARCOmadrid in late February or early March, and Orgullo from 28 June.
☀️
Weather and plan B
July is the hottest month, averaging about 26.5 °C, with daytime highs of almost 40 °C; August averages about 26 °C with lots of tropical nights. So in summer, spend the day in the hammam or on the Bernabéu tour and head out in the evening. Plan B if it rains: axe throwing, bowling or flamenco.

Budget
How much does a stag or hen do in Madrid cost?
In Madrid a caña costs €2.70–2.80 at Plaza Mahou, a cocktail usually €9–14, and club entry at Sala Pirandello €14 with a drink until 00:30. Dinner-and-flamenco menus, VIP tables and hotels during trade fairs are what push the budget up; bodegas, tardeo and the airport bus keep it down.

Where can large groups book in Madrid?
Cervecería Santa Ana does group menus for up to 40 people from €15 per person, and Areia has an area for 10 to 15 people. At Museo Chicote, groups of 10 or more book via Mercado de la Reina, and The Hat takes tables for up to 10 people. Teatro Kapital has VIP tables, and Sala Pirandello bottle packages for 6 people.
What's banned on a stag do in Madrid?
Drinking on the street is banned in the Comunidad de Madrid, terraces excepted, and counts as a minor offence with a legal range of €300–30,050. There's no documented Madrid-specific ban on stag and hen costumes or organised pub crawls; in clubs like Teatro Kapital, entry is over-18s only with ID and no sportswear.
What are good things to do for a hen party in Madrid?
For a bachelorette party in Madrid: sunset on the Azotea at the Círculo, 90 minutes at Hammam Al Ándalus, a paella or salsa class in the afternoon, then flamenco at Cardamomo in the evening and cocktails at Fat Cats or Areia. If you want to dance early, go to the tardeo at Casa Amante.
How do you get home at night?
The metro runs until 01:30, at weekends too. After that the Búhos night buses run, mostly from Plaza de Cibeles: on Saturdays and before public holidays every 15 to 20 minutes until 07:00, otherwise every 35 minutes until 04:00. Taxis at night: €3.20 base fare plus €1.60 per km.
What can you do in Madrid when it's hot or raining?
In July the average is about 26.5 °C, with daytime highs of almost 40 °C. Then head for Hammam Al Ándalus, the Bernabéu tour or, from 18:00, free entry to the Prado. If it rains: axe throwing at Urban Safari, 20 lanes at Bowling Chamartín, flamenco at Sala Temple or karaoke at Cheers.
