Stag & hen do planning tips
💶
What does a night out cost?
A beer (0.5 l) costs about 12 zł in a restaurant, 13–16 zł in pubs like Deja Vu and from 5 zł at the Pijalnia on the Rynek; vodka shots 5–12 zł; cocktails in the speakeasies Dash and Nie mów nikomu 45–65 zł, and about 41 zł in a club according to a price site. Club entry 0–50 zł, Tama 39–98 zł depending on the event. You pay in złoty; €1 is about 4.38 zł, and many venues add 10% service for groups of 6 or more.
Night trams 201 to 209 and night buses 210 to 299 meet to change between Rondo Kaponiera and Most Teatralny; tram 201 runs every night except Monday to Tuesday, 202 only on weekend nights, and daytime lines run from about 04:30 to 23:00. Time ticket 15 minutes 5 zł, 45 minutes 7 zł, 24 hours 18 zł, at the machine or in the PEKA app. Uber, Bolt and FreeNow operate; taxis average a 9 zł base fare and 4 zł per km.
There's no closing time: Czekolada and Czarna Owca run until 05:00, Cuba Libre too according to the guide, Ministerstwo Śledzia on the Rynek until 06:00 on Saturdays, Tama until 04:00 to 06:00, and the Pijalnia at Rynek 85 until 05:00 according to the guide. Shops in the Old Towndon't sell alcohol between 22:00 and 06:00; at residents' request the city council brought the start forward from 23:00 to 22:00. Bars and restaurants keep serving.
⚠️
What's banned?
Drinking alcohol on streets and squares is banned in Poland, and the fine is usually 100 zł. Poznań has five exemption zones on the Warta riverbank between the old Warta riverbed, the św. Rocha bridge and the Królowej Jadwigi bridge, not under bridges; Stary Rynek isn't one of them. If you're driving: 0.2 per mille. Smoking is banned inside venues except in smoking rooms, minimum age 18. At Schron and ŚLINA, photos of other guests aren't welcome; bring ID.
🐐
Koziołki, pyry and “tej”
Every day at 12:00, the two mechanical billy goats on the town hall tower butt heads, because, legend has it, a cook burnt the feast's roast and stole two goats. The local dish is pyry z gzikiem, boiled potatoes with quark, chives and radishes, for example at Hyćka or Pyra Bar. In Poznań dialect the tram is “bimba”, potatoes are “pyry”, and “tej” gets tacked onto almost every sentence. On 11 November the city buys about 250 t of St Martin's croissants.
🚆
Getting there
EuroCity from Berlin Hbf in about 2 h 40 min, 7 trains a day, saver fares from €18.90 with a seat; the train also stops in Frankfurt (Oder). FlixBus from Berlin in 3 h 05 min from €14.98, 13 connections a day. Non-stop flights to Poznań-Ławica (POZ): Lufthansa from Frankfurt and Munich, Swiss from Zurich and Wizz Air from Basel; the airport is 5 km west of the city, bus 159 to the main station in about 20 minutes, night bus 222, Uber about 40 zł on average. From the main station it's about 1.7 km to Stary Rynek.
🛏️

Budget
How much does a stag or hen do in Poznań cost?
In Poznań, half a litre of beer costs about 12 zł in a restaurant and 13–16 zł in pubs, a vodka shot 5–12 zł and a cocktail in the speakeasies 45–65 zł. The shooting range, karting and the private beer and vodka tours are what push the budget up; the Pijalnia, Ministerstwo Śledzia, escape rooms priced per group and the 5 zł night tram keep it down.
