Duisburg Stag Do & Bachelor Party: Partying Between Dellplatz, the Innenhafen and the Blast Furnace
A brewpub on Dellplatz, parties in the Old Town, a high ropes course in a blast furnace and Schimanski's pub in Ruhrort: here's how to plan your stag do or hen party in Duisburg, with the best things to do for groups of women and men alike.
Good to know
Stag & hen do planning tips
💶
What does a night out cost?
A 0.5 l draught beer costs €3.50 at Zum Bierkönig and €5.55 at Bolero in the Innenhafen, a 0.3 l König Pilsener €3.50 at the König-Haus. Jumbo cocktails at Bolero cost €12.45, parties at viersieben €5–9 entry, and at Parkhaus Meiderich often nothing. All guide prices.
The DVG's NachtExpress buses leave hourly from the east entrance of the main station. On Friday night the NE1 runs until 03:30, on Saturday night until 06:30. From 20:00 you can ask to be dropped between stops. Taxi: Taxi-Zentrale Duisburg 0203 333333.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, pubs and restaurants only have a closing time from 05:00 to 06:00, entertainment venues from 01:00 to 06:00. Duisburg lifts it completely on New Year's Eve and on the 6 nights of Carnival, and on the nights around 1 May too. At the Beecker Kirmes funfair it starts at 24:00.
⚠️
What's banned?
The safety and public order regulations ban peeing in public, bawling, harassing passers-by and leaving bottles behind, with fines of up to €1,000. Settling down in public squares to drink and blocking benches or stops is also against the rules.
⚓
Port city
Duisburg has the largest inland port in the world. In the port district of Ruhrort there were more than 100 pubs until the 1960s; today there are about half a dozen left. In the Ruhr people also drink at the Büdchen kiosks, and the city's beer is König Pilsener from Beeck.
🚆
Getting there
By train you'll reach Duisburg from Düsseldorf in 14 minutes, from Cologne in 34 to 44 minutes, from Frankfurt in just under 2 hours and from Hamburg in 3 to 4 hours. From Düsseldorf Airport it's 7 minutes on the SkyTrain and about 10 minutes by train. FlixBus stops at the ZOB on Mercatorstraße.
🛏️
Where to stay
The most practical place to stay is the city centre between the main station, Dellplatz and the Innenhafen: the Innenhafen is a few minutes' walk away, and the NachtExpress buses leave from the main station. During boot in January, the Düsseldorf boat show, the Messe Düsseldorf is close by, so book early.
🌤️
Weather and plan B
Summer is the time for beer gardens, the harbour and water skiing; August is on average the warmest month and September the wettest. When it rains, there are escape rooms at the CityPalais, disco bowling at the XXL Sportcenter, the thermal spa with 15 saunas and the high ropes course, which runs in any weather.
