Good to know
Stag & hen do planning tips
💶
What does a night out cost?
A beer (0.5 l) costs 45–75 Kč in most pubs and 80–150 Kč in tourist areas and craft beer bars; a 0.45 l Pilsner Urquell at U Zlatého tygra is 73 Kč. Cocktails at AnonymouS Bar cost 245–385 Kč. Clubs: Karlovy lázně from 320 Kč, from 250 Kč before 23:00, the video party at Lucerna 200 Kč, Cross Club free on many nights. You pay in Czech koruna; €1 is about 24.37 Kč.
The metro runs from 05:00 to 24:00; after that the night trams 91 to 99 take over from 00:00 to 05:00 every 30 minutes, with transfers at Lazarská, plus night buses 901 to 918. Tickets: 30 minutes 39 Kč, 90 minutes 50 Kč, 24 hours 150 Kč, cheaper in the PID Lítačka app, contactless by card on trams and buses. AAA Taxi +420 222 333 222, plus Bolt and Liftago; there's no longer a fixed maximum taxi fare.
There's no general closing time: Karlovy lázně and Duplex stay open until 05:00, the cellar bar Kozička until 05:30 on Fridays and Saturdays, Tiki Taky in Žižkov until 05:00. By law, quiet hours run from 22:00 to 06:00, and making noise outside can land you a fine of up to 10,000 Kč.
⚠️
What's banned?
Organised pub crawls are banned across Prague from 22:00, so if you book one, take an early slot. Drinking alcohol is banned in more than 1,000 public places, such as within 100 m of metro entrances and at stops, and on the Vltava embankments from 00:00 to 09:00; an open bottle is enough for a fine. Smoking is banned inside bars and restaurants.
🍺
Hladinka, Šnyt and Mlíko
Beer is poured three ways: Hladinka with about three fingers of foam, Šnyt with lots of foam and air in the glass, and Mlíko, almost nothing but wet foam, downed in one. The waiter marks a line on your slip for every beer and keeps them coming until you put a beer mat on your glass; to pay, say “zaplatím”. Tank beer comes unpasteurised straight from the brewery's tanks.
🚆
Getting there
From Dresden there are about 15 trains a day, and the fastest takes around 2 h 25 min; from Berlin it's about 4 hours, every 2 hours, or about 3 h 40 min by FlixBus. From Vienna about 4 hours, from Munich around 5 h 45 min. From the airport, the Airport Express takes about 40 minutes to the main railway station for 200 Kč; trolleybus 59 gets you to metro line A faster.
🛏️
Where to stay
For a hotel for your stag or hen do in Prague, CzechTourism gives a guide price of 2,500–4,500 Kč per room per night, and a hostel bed costs about 400 Kč. Sir Toby's in Holešovice and Sir Toby's Midtown in Žižkov explicitly welcome groups of friends, minimum 2 nights; Czech Inn at Francouzská 76 has its own group booking form and a bar.
☀️
Weather and plan B
July is the warmest month, with an average daily high of 26.5 °C; January averages 3.9 °C, and May to August get the most rain. Plan B if it rains: a beer spa, laser game beneath Na Příkopě, blacklight mini golf on Michalská, escape rooms in Battle Mode at MindMaze, the wind tunnel in Letňany or the Pilsner Urquell Experience on Wenceslas Square.
