Beer on the Grote Markt, a bungee jump from the pier in Scheveningen and beach clubs on Zwarte Pad: here's how to plan your stag do or hen party in The Hague, with the best things to do, prices, the night bus and the city's rules.

Stag & hen do planning tips

What does a night out cost?

A vaasje (0.25 l) mostly costs €3.90 to €4.20 in pubs in the centre, a 1.5 l pitcher at Rootz €22.50. Cocktails are mostly €11 to €14.50, €8.50 on Thursdays at Café de Florèz. Club tickets in advance mostly cost €10–18, special events at PIP €32–35.

All costs and money-saving tips ↓

Getting home at night

The night buses N1 to N6 run only on Friday and Saturday nights, each line every 2 hours from Den Haag Centraal, starting at 01:00 or 02:00; the N1 goes to Scheveningen. The ticket costs €6.50 via the HTM app or OVpay. Otherwise there's the taxi: HTMC round the clock on +31 70 390 7722, plus Uber.

HTM night bus ↗

How late does the night go?

Pubs and bars may open until 02:00 or 02:30, terraces in the nightlife areas until 02:30. It goes on longer at the music café De Paap, until 05:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, at Crazy Pianos until 04:00 on Saturdays, and in the clubs: Club Gewoon and Club Joli until 05:00, PIP mostly until 06:00.

What's banned?

Drinking alcohol on the street is banned in 13 areas, including the whole centre, the Malieveld and the coastal strip, and an open bottle or can is enough. On the beach at Scheveningen this applies from 1 April to 1 October on the Strandweg and the boulevard. Sleeping on the beach is banned from 19:00 to 10:00.

The club door

Most clubs let you in from 18 with ID, Club Gewoon only from 21 on Saturdays, and some nights at Paard from 25. Hits clubs like Club Joli and Club Gewoon won't let in sportswear, caps or sunglasses, so check your stag or hen fancy dress first. For Laak there are only advance tickets, and at PIP booking early saves money.

Getting there

By car, according to ADAC, it's 2 h 43 min to 2 h 57 min from Essen and 3 h 19 min from Cologne. Park cheaply with Park + Beach from €7.50 a day, tram ride included. By train it's 3 h 1 min from Cologne with one change, and around 36 minutes direct from Schiphol. FlixBus stops at the Den Haag Centraal bus station.

Where to stay

For a hotel for your stag or hen do in The Hague: Stayokay is between Centraal and Hollands Spoor stations, with a bar and a waterside terrace; breakfast costs €10.50 extra. On top comes tourist tax of €6.20 per person per night. For something smarter, stay at the Kurhaus on the boulevard with 270 rooms or at Hotel 't Goude Hooft on the Dagelijkse Groenmarkt.

Weather and plan B

Maritime climate: daytime highs range from 7 °C in January to 22 °C in August, and September is the wettest month with 118 mm. When it rains, stay dry bowling at Palace Promenade, in an escape room at Hollands Spoor station, in the karaoke cellar at Bleyenberg or at the beer tasting at the Kompaan brewery.
